| Shaping and Executing a Winning Game Plan |
Written by Russell EvansWelcome to the 2nd edition of the ‘LEADER’ Newsletter published by Australia pacific Leadership Group (APLG). We would like to thank you for such a positive response and all of your feedback on the inaugural edition. The theme for this edition is ‘Shaping & Executing a Winning Game Plan’ specifically focusing on the role of the leader in setting strategy and achieving results. With upward pressure on the current economic environment, shaping and executing a well-thought through ‘game plan’ (strategy) is one of the key elements leaders are challenged by to ensure that their organisation and people are centred on the things that matter. This is particularly challenging in an environment where the market demands short term results when we know in our hearts that we need to also focus on long term sustainable strategies that will deliver success over a long period of time. In his book “Good to Great”, Jim Collins outlines that a highly effective leader (Level 5 Leader) not only sets up success for the current state but they also “set up their successors for greater success in the next generation”. This suggests that a ‘Level 5 Leader’ is able to shape a sustainable vision and strategy and that they are highly skilled at articulating and executing on that strategy both now and into the future. This is not an easy exercise. Particularly when we are constantly drawn into the day to day challenges being faced by the organisation. The following outlines some coaching tips that we have collected over a number of years through working with a range of organisations in a variety of industry sectors:
Once again, thank for your participation as a reader of our Newsletter. I hope that you find this edition enjoyable and thought provoking and encourage you to forward the link onto a friend that may be interested in similar individual and collective challenges faced by leaders. |
